DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
Design Technology changes and affects the state of our world and life. Children are taught to combine their designing and making skills alongside their knowledge and understanding in order to construct products that satisfy need and challenges. Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values.

The children at Pinehurst learn creative design and technology skills through the use of the design-make-evaluate process within each unit. Their projects are meaningful and children are encouraged to consider their intended user and purpose throughout each design. Before undertaking a task the children will research existing products and designs, choose the appropriate materials and tools for their task and consider each step of the design process. At the end of each unit the children reflect on their work identifying areas of success and and any improvements that could be made.

The Design and Technology units at Pinehurst include the following:

  • Shell and Freestanding Strcutures
  • Materials and Textiles
  • Electrical Systems
  • Mechanisms, Slides and Levers
  • Food and Nutrition

Pinehurst children also benefit from outside agency support from Apple of My Eye who are specialists in food, cookery and nutrition. You can find recipes and practical ideas from them on our website here

Leading DT at Pinehurst Primary School is: Miss Y Hinchcliffe
