A high-quality Computing education allows the pupils at Pinehurst Primary School to be creative, think 'like a computer' to solve problems and understand the world around them. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science and design and technology, and where possible our computing programme of study draws links with other curriculum areas to ensure it is meaningful. The Computing curriculum at Pinehurst Primary School is divided into three strands with equal coverage across the school year:

Computer Science- The study of computers as machines and how they operate including programming, algorithms, variables, sequence, selection and repetition.

Digital Literacy- The skills you need to live, learn, and work in a society where communication and access to information is increasingly through digital technologies like internet platforms, social media, and mobile devices. This includes being knowledgeable and responsible users of technology, using the internet and other platforms safely and respectfully.

Information Technology- The ability to create, retrieve, combine and manipulate digital content. The understanding of computer networks, the world-wide web and the internet and how they operate.

Online Safety:

As an on-going part of our Computing curriculum at Pinehurst children will continually revisit all aspects of online safety, they will learn use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly, knowing when and why to keep personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies, recognise acceptable and unacceptable behaviour and learn how to be a good digital citizen and internet user. We use the Google- Be Internet Legends programme to teach aspects of online safety with our KS2 pupils.
